"Fear Not"

Maybe you've seen our signs around town, "Fear Not!" We are reminded of the "social distancing" occurring when Jesus was arrested in the Garden of Gethsemane. The disciples all fled in fear. The next day, at noon, a deep darkness descended over the land as Jesus hung on the cross. Darkness prevailed for three hours as the Son of God slowly died. Then, on the 1st Day of the Week, up from the grave – Christ arose! At One Christ / Won City, we don't believe it was an accident that this coronavirus has descended upon us as we draw near the celebration of Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Resurrection morning!  We want to remind the people of God of the promises He has made: "If my people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray…then will I hear from heaven – and heal their land." We are asking all of His people to pray – to pray toward – to pray leaning into – to pray expectantly with regard to Easter Sunday, April 12, 2020 embracing with great confidence all the hope Easter morning universally affords to His Church!  Specifically, we are asking you to beseech our risen and reigning King for:

  • Parents, children, and teachers working out the education of all our children.
  • Those suffering with the virus in their homes or in medical facilities.
  • Health workers tending those we love.
  • Our Lord's peace for our must vulnerable.
  • Those who have lost their jobs or those whose livelihood is threatened.
  • Wisdom to prevail in the minds and hearts of our national, state, and local leaders.
  • The Church of Jesus Christ that she might lift her earnest voice to her Lord in passionate worship and intercession for our nation.
  • Christ to hear from heaven – and heal our land – even as His bride looks to Him in faith!
  • Christ to accomplish for His own glory, a world-wide harvest of people as His Church proclaims His gospel – unafraid!

"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid." ~ Jesus to His people, John 14:27.

Please pray with us every day at 7:14am and 7:14pm

Consider setting aside a Special Tine for Prayer Today, Day 50!

"This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent" John 17:3 [NASB]

"Do not fear, for I am with you; do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand."—Isaiah 41:10 [NASB]

God created us to walk with Him in a trust relationship. He (and knowing Him) is our Treasure, nothing or no one is greater than Him. When sin entered, He worked to deal with sin, its power, and its penalty, even taking the punishment for my sin and your sin on Himself. He has spoken of His love and He has shown His love. He knows what we need before we ask or even think of it. He knows our times—our days and our hours. Nothing slips past Him. He never dozes off or misses something. Nothing catches Him by surprise. However, He often surprises us. Jesus came and walked among us; He 'gets it,' He knows what we face—from thought level to action level. He also knew we would face the consequences of sin and a fallen creation before He ever created the first atom or angel. And He has made eternal provision for all that we would ever face. How should we respond to daily life now?

First, go to the LordNow! This is no time for considering what 'options' we might have—time is passing, eternity is coming. He knows the details far better than any of us. So, go to Him, to His Word and listen first. Then, talk to Him—tell Him everything that is on your heart. Jesus told us to do that in Matthew 6:6-8. Hebrews 4:14-16 states it well, "Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and my find grace to help in time of need."

Remember: God always knows what's going on! Sometimes He acts "two minutes till too late," but He is never late… or early… Always on time!

Now is the Time to Pray

Be looking! Some of God's answers to Prayer:

1) Yes, now. I am glad you asked. 2) Yes, but not yet. You or others are not ready. 3) Yes, little by little. Trust Me in this.

4) Yes, but different (or better) than you think. 5) Yes, but ask for more. 6) No, never. I love you too much.

For YOU Personally—How to Use the 50 Day Prayer Calendar—"Fear Not" –a Call to 50 Days of Trusting God and Praying

Things are looking different every day. For some, this is a very rough time, even the worst time anyone can remember. It is certainly a time to seek the Lord and pray. Remember—God gives us the time we need—each of us has enough time to do the will of God… but not enough time to do His will and our will, our "add-on" wishes or plans. God does not want us to walk in "fear" of our circumstances or fear of others. He does want us to walk in "the fear of the Lord," respecting, reverencing, worshiping, and obeying Him. He is worthy of that, because He is always right—not just sometimes or part of the time, but all the time. So, the best thing to do is to come to Him; as someone has stated, "Time with the Lord is invested time, never wasted time!"

Consider this "Fear Not" time a personal adventure in "getting to know God better and walking in His will more fully." This can be a family adventure, even a whole church adventure as well. God deals with sin in its many manifestations and He often carefully instructs His people to not walk in "fear" of other people, of the rebellious or wicked, of the foolish or reckless. He wants us to follow Him and His Word in order to know His Best for life. That's what He desired for Adam and the Woman in the Garden of Eden—that desire has never changed. That's part of the reason He has given us His Word, why Jesus came, why He sent His Spirit to guide us each and every day. His many promises reveal His plans—wonderful plans for His Family… and for you!

This 50-Day Prayer Adventure is designed to give a specific focus each day grouped around one of Seven Faith Focus Points—Each day read and ponder what God says in Scripture and Pray! Here are the Seven Points, each in some way focusing on God and what He says …

  1. God Says—What God says is always right. He does not have to 'research' or 'consider His options.' Read/Listen to Him to know Him and His Wisdom and how it applies to you and your life.
  2. David Said—David knew the Lord from his childhood; he experienced His guidance and His ways. What he penned and prayed can guide each of us in our daily dilemmas—any of our "fears"—(or daily delights) as well.
  3. The Fear of God—There is a Good Fear needed in every life, "the Fear of the Lord." Scripture presents this several times in several ways. We can learn from the Lord and what He has said.
  4. Worry and Fear— Worry and Fear often go together, and God addresses these things in many places in His Word. The more we know of Him and what He says, the more comfort we find Him giving us.
  5. God at Work through Many—God works through many people, through various circumstances, even in difficult days. We should be aware of this as one of His ways. He does not want us to panic, but to pray. Trust Him in the face of what we face.
  6. Such a Time as This—Some periods of time are more unique than others—we are living in such a time. How should we respond? God can guide us through His Word and through prayer. It is always right to pray!
  7. Eternity's Coming—Time is not all there is; eternity is real and is coming. Everyone will be in eternity eventually; some separated from God forever while those who know Jesus as Lord and Savior will enjoy His Blessed Presence forever.

Here's How Daily… Use the Scriptures for each day as your morning Quiet Time reading (or other times during the day). The point is regular intake of God's Word and praying God's will God's way. Read each Scripture. Meditate and Think it over. Pray that Scripture back to the Lord for yourself or for someone else. Ask God for wisdom, insight, and clear application to your life. Jot down your thoughts or a prayer request based on that Scripture. Focus First on the Lord and your relationship with Him. God works for His Name's sake. Pray for those God brings to mind—they need to know God cares and answers prayer.

For example, the Prayer Scripture for every Monday focuses on David Said. For Monday, Day 9 the title phrase is "God's Word" and the Scripture reading is from Psalm 56. David was in trouble and faced many fears. What did he do? He placed His trust in God "whose word I praise." He knew God could speak to him and would speak to him. Ask the Lord to speak to you through His Word and to deal with your fears. Pray for others, too.

Ways to Pray…

There are several ways to Participate in "Fear Not!"50 Days of Praying. These include Personal Prayer, Family Prayer, Prayer Partner Prayer, Small Group Prayer, and Church-wide Prayer.

The Prayer Partner Option—You may also want to pray together with a Prayer Partner. Set a time each day to pray—this includes Cell phone simplicity or an online or video meeting to pray. The point is praying together and seeing what God could do.

The Day of Prayer and Fasting Option—Some will want to spend a day or several days in Prayer with Fasting during these 50 Days. This could include a Personal Day of Prayer. Pick one or several of the 50 days or part of day when you can be focused and undistracted.

The Weekly Small Group Option for Prayer—In addition to your Daily Time, where possible you may want to gather with others Weekly for prayer—even online or over the phone. The need certainly cries out loudly for us to call on the Lord personally and together with other believers.

An Extended Time of Prayer—Take a Day or Part of Day and Pray. You can include others as part of this time, again, online or over the phone.

PrayerEveryWhere—Consider prayer walking or prayer driving the streets, neighborhoods, schools, businesses, and/or recreation areas near you or your church gathering place. With health and safety in mind, draw a circle around where you live and begin praying—even praying over a 'map' or over a screen looking at "Google Earth" or something similar during these 50 days.
